The 2014 Perdue Strike Out Hunger Challenge on Delmarva generated a record 148,000 meals in the fight against hunger.

Striking Out Hunger on Delmarva

In 2011, we joined with the Delmarva Shorebirds baseball team to sponsor the Perdue Strike Out Hunger South Atlantic League All-Star Game. Together, we mobilized the Delmarva community to show their support for the Food Bank of Delaware, the Eastern Shore Branch of the Maryland Food Bank and the Food Bank of Virginia’s Eastern Shore. Through the Perdue Homeplate All-Star Challenge, we created incentives for each of the 14 teams within the league to encourage community support for their local Feeding America-affiliated food banks. Together, the two programs generated the equivalent of more than 250,000 meals. And, through the Arthur W. Perdue Foundation, we provided grants totaling $16,000 to the three Delmarva food banks, and an additional $14,000 distributed to food banks in each of the league communities.

In 2012, we continued the partnership with the Delmarva Shorebirds and the Food Bank of Delaware, the Eastern Shore Branch of the Maryland Food Bank and the Food Bank of Virginia’s Eastern Shore. The 2012 Strike Out Hunger on Delmarva campaign raised the equivalent of more than 58,000 meals through a $15,000 challenge grant from the Arthur W. Perdue Foundation.
  • The 2013 Strike Out Hunger on Delmarva campaign nearly doubled the previous year’s results, bringing in the equivalent of 111,000 meals and a $15,000 challenge grant from the Arthur W. Perdue Foundation, distributed among the three participating food banks.

  • The 2014 Strike Out Hunger on Delmarva lifted the bar even higher, raising the equivalent of 148,00 meals and earning another $15,000 challenge grant from the Arthur W. Perdue Foundation.
