Our Aspirations to Our Communities

To be a trustworthy corporate citizen and a conscientious steward of the environment.

Our team of board-certified veterinarians oversee poultry health and welfare.

Bruce Stewart-Brown, Chief Veterinarian and VP of Food Safety and Quality at Perdue, talks about Perdue's USDA Process Verified Program.

Animal Welfare

We know that our customers and consumers expect that our products come from animals that have been raised in a healthy manner and treated with respect at every stage. We share this responsibility with the independent farm families who raise most of our animals. We also recognize that animal husbandry is always advancing, and we are committed to continuous improvement and learning in our animal care programs.

We recognize that there are different approaches toward raising animals for food, and within each comes the responsibility to animal welfare. All of our poultry and pork raising programs provide a safe, healthy and low-stress environment in which the animals have room to move about freely, without competition for space, food or water, and with fresh air. Animals are raised in accordance with the most up-to-date farm animal husbandry for each program. We support customer and consumer choice, and we are proud of our ability to make those choices affordable and accessible.

To ensure this, we have documented best practices, training, auditing and oversight for each of the programs. Numerous third-party audits, including customer audits, our USDA Process Verified Program for Responsible Treatment, Global Animal Partnership and National Organic Program, provide additional verification that our standards are being followed.

Mistreatment or abuse of animals is never tolerated. All associates handling live animals are provided training, including their responsibility to report any violations of our animal welfare policies. We also provide an anonymous, toll-free hotline, operated by an independent third party, to offer a secure method for reporting any violations without fear of retaliation. Our independent growers share equal responsibility to provide care according to our best practices and standards, and to alert us to any issues involving animal health or welfare.
